some ideas i feel i ought to spell out more fully

i have suggested that animal collective is the version of the beatles the internet created, i reassert it now.

the beatles were incidentally, by means of their ability, the universal human narrative for the duration of their career. i dont know if yr familiar with the word 'rockist' but it broadly refers to a frame that privileges guitar music over all others. it was so derided by the internet that it now exists only in cultural memory. the beatles are the jesus 'von' christ of the 20th century cultural hegemony, ['rockism'] in that their story was everyone's story ['everyone' refers to straight white males, the group i self-identify into]. bob dylan is 'god the father' because he granted the human pop act the beatles marijuana and its promethean spark [PUN] turned them into what they were.

animal collective is the internet inventing the beatles, but where the beatles began as a sober pop act and transitioned into Meaning, anco began with Meaning and has powered on through until culture was Futuristic enough to accept them. the internet means only the people who want music to Mean things have to hear them, which is why pitchfork led the charge.

i jokingly conflated pitchfork media with rolling stone in another blogpost, this too i reassert in earnest. they are a gen x iteration of baby boomers, so of course when they found a beatles they cobranded with it. they have never 'gotten things', but they are idiot savants of musical direction. they are doomed to forever know the 'what' without the 'why', that is why their numerical scores are usually apt while their reviews are poorly written
